Syrian film-maker Reem Karssli and Bristol based director and Pervasive Media Studio resident Caroline Williams will describe the methods they discovered to make work that responded to real life events, including war and displacement.
Reem and Caroline will share the story of their creative collaboration, as well as the practical and artistic challenges they faced in making work about an issue as large and urgent as the war in Syria and the refugee crises.
This talk will include sections from Reem's film Every Day, Every Day, her intimate account of being house bound in Damascus during the Syrian conflict in 2014. Reem and Caroline will reflect on the role, or lack of a role, for art in times of trauma.
Their show Now Is The Time To Say Nothing, an interactive video installation exploring the role of screens in observing conflict, is playing at Bristol Old Vic from 20th - 23rd Febuary.
