Walter Murch: The Art of the Cut
Until Sun 25 May
One of the most acclaimed film and sound editors in the history of cinema, three-time Academy Award®-winner Walter Murch has amassed an incomparable body of work. With a career spanning more than 50 years, Murch was involved in the early days of American Zoetrope studios with Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas in the late 60s.
In his new memoir, Suddenly Something Clicked, Murch invites readers on a voyage of discovery through film, through a mixture of personal stories, reflection on his own creative tactics and strategies, and reminiscences on his collaborations with Coppola, Lucas and later a close working relationship with Anthony Minghella.
Murch himself will be visiting Watershed on Thu 15 May for an event around the release of his new memoir, and will be in conversation following a screening of Her Name Was Moviola. To mark this occasion, we’ll be screening select highlights from his filmography in a season playing on Sundays throughout May, revisiting classics including Apocalypse Now, The Godfather, The Talented Mr Ripley and THX 1138, which Murch co-wrote with Lucas.
