The Watermelon Woman - 30th anniversary

A young Black lesbian filmmaker probes into the life of The Watermelon Woman, a 1930s Black actress who played ‘mammy’ archetypes.

This screening will be introduced by our 16-19 Film Club hosts, and featuring a pre-recorded introduction from director Somina 'Mena' Fombo.

Poet, Cultural Producer, and Writer Muneera Pilgrim will also be performing ahead of the screening.
