Fly across the night sky with us as we watch a collection of short films from the pioneering early filmmaker Georges Méliès, one of the first directors to create fictional narratives and often regarded as the inventor of special effects in film. From a solar eclipse to the far-flung dream of an astronomer, and an eventful voyage from the Alps to the Sun and then under the sea, this selection of shorts takes you on a ride of astronomical trips, including finally to the Moon!
These films will be soundtracked by live improvised music from musician and educator Raph Clarkson, featuring the trombone, piano and YOU – feel free to bring your own percussion instrument and use your voice! A few egg shakers will be available on the door for anyone who’d like to get involved.
