Taking risks, breaking rules and dealing with the consequences.
In this Lunchtime Talk, Joss Affleck draws on their experiences of ADHD, neurodivergence and overstimulation to explore disability in the arts and the tension between creative curiosity and burnout.
Through the School of Unlearning, they question what arts education teaches us about productivity, expertise, success and who gets to be an artist. What can clowning teach us about failure, and how can immersive storytelling bring people together in a world that won’t stop making noise?
About Joss
Joss Affleck, aka Mister Llaneous, is a queer artist, animator and creative technologist with a suitably miscellaneous practice spanning performance, projection and immersive arts. They combine old storytelling forms with new technologies to make playful, socially engaged work about memory, identity and connection.
After five years in a BAFTA-winning film and television team, building what looked suspiciously like a sensible career, their projects now include smartphone sound séances, queering folklore through sauna storytelling and animation exploring dementia through a time-travelling grandad.
