Tamagotchis, Memory and Being Remembered: Family Creative Technology Workshop

Remember Me? Tamagotchi Family Workshop

Workshop

Fri 10 April 14:30

Pervasive Media Studio

This February half-term, we're excited to invite young people aged 8–14 and their grown-ups to a special workshop with one of our Winter Residents, Nick Murray to explore games.

Inspired by The Everyworld Exhibition currently at Undershed on display at Undershed until Sun 12 April., Nick’s session draws on digital pets from the 1990s and 2000s to playfully investigate what it means to remember - and be remembered.

From virtual reality to giant inflatables of lost relatives, from moving image pieces to detailed sketchbooks, The Everyworld is an archaeological deep dig celebrating family, the creative spirit, grief and togetherness.

You don’t need to have seen the exhibition to attend the workshop, but we do invite you to make a day of it.

Come and see the exhibition and then join us in the Studio to explore its themes and motifs through play and discovery.

Young people aged 8-14 attending the workshop can receive free tickets to the exhibition when added to your basket at the same time as the workshop booking.

About Nick Murray

Nick is one of four creative practitioners joining Watershed and Pervasive Media Studio as part of the Winter Residency Programme, an opportunity to develop bold early-stage ideas using creative technology in response to the theme If These Walls Could Talk.

Nick is a producer, game-maker and artist making socially-led narrative work focusing on loss, collective memory and digital cultures.

During the residency, Nick is exploring the Tamagotchi as a cultural artefact - a digital pet that sits between physical and digital life - using it as a lens to reflect on death, memory and digital afterlives. The work considers how remembrance is shaped by cloud storage, AI distortion and the persistent traces we leave online.

  • Young people aged 8-14 can visit The Everyworld Exhibition for free when attending this workshop.
