From a digital route planner that avoids hills and rough surfaces, to a sculpture made entirely of scent and games that give players' superpowers as their heart rate start pumping, this year's Media Sandbox projects give a new meaning to the phrase 'pushing the boundaries.'
You can now watch video documentation of the seven successful projects online over at DShed.
The popularity of this year's Media Sandbox showcase has been overwhelming. All 200 seats in our main auditorium completely sold-out within three weeks. In September 2010, seven companies were commissioned to develop projects under two strands, B-Open and Pervasive Experiences. The showcase event features video documentation of the seven projects; reflections on successes and key areas of learning; and panel sessions with practitioners and advisory board members.
Media Sandbox 2010 is produced by iShed in partnership with the Creative Industries iNet and Bristol City Council.

Media Sandbox is a development scheme that enables digital companies to collaborate on ground-breaking projects. Set-up to support new ideas and facilitate new connections, the scheme gives small producers time, space and resources to turn wild ideas into working prototypes and deliver innovation to the creative digital market.
Now in its third year, Media Sandbox 2010 awarded seven £10000 commissions to support projects under two strands: B-Open and Pervasive Experiences. B-Open gives digital developers free access to key data about life in Bristol, which Bristol City Council has published openly for the very first time. This strand comprises of three new digital developments, helping Bristol lead the way in becoming a smart, green, digital city.
Under the Pervasive Experiences strand, Media Sandbox 2010 has supported development of four inspiring ideas exploring senses and sensors to create new models of interaction with digital technologies and enhance our experiences, whether with music, games or within a retail environment.
This years' participants include Delib, Overlay Media, Mobile Pie, nu desine, Mutant Labs, Remode and Moksha. Join us to celebrate their success, discover the potential of open data and learn how pervasive media can enhance our lives.
